Welcome to my portfolio, My name is Carls Xyrelle Aliah C. Marquez, I’m Grade 11 STEM student at Puerto Galera National High School. My dream is to become a successful nurse and heal those people who feel pain. I choose to pursue this dream because my sister is a nurse and she’s my idol.

Exploring the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and math. These four fields share an emphasis on innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. And together they make up a popular and fast-growing industry. Most STEM workers use computers and other technology in their day-to-day jobs. STEM in higher education teaches students to think critically, prepares them for careers and creates professionals that can work across scientific disciplines to solve challenging problems. STEM integrates multiple disciplines and trains students to use cross-disciplinary knowledge to solve problems. Studying science and technology fields gives students a foundation in mathematics, problem-solving, research methods, and much more. These skills are in demand for a wide variety of jobs, meaning that it’s easier for STEM majors to switch careers if needed or desired. Mathematics is the key to a STEM degree. Without it, students will struggle in these majors and may even decide not to pursue them at all. STEM strand focuses on advanced concepts and topics compared to other strands. In this track, students are expected to become a pilot, an architect, an astrophysicist, a biologist, a chemist, an engineer, a dentist, a nutritionist, a nurse, a doctor, and a lot more, even the marine engineers could take this track.
